Beer Review: Dogfish Head, Immort Ale

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

Bottle/Tap: Bottle

I really should buy some stock in Dogfish Head. Considering I seem to enjoy any of their non-IPA brews, I think this would be a wise fiscal decision. Until I get my broker on the phone, I’ll just tell you about another one of their great beers: the Immort Ale.

Right after I popped the cap, I could...

Winter Beers

Tuesday, January 13th, 2009

A few Saturday’s ago I, and a few other beer experts, convened to sample an assortment of winter beers. Our results may shock you:

Blue Moon, Full Moon Winter Ale – Not a heavy ale, and slightly bitter, it was refreshing. With a good dark caramel color, this went down very easily. If Sam Winter is too much for you, this is lighter in comparison.

Harpoon, Winter Warmer – Probably the most spiced of all the ales we tried....

Special Almond Chocolate Coffee

Friday, January 9th, 2009
Today marks the twentieth day of winter in the northern hemisphere.  However, in New Hampshire it seems like we already have had a winter's worth of snow and ice. Happy New Year! One thing I always enjoy is a good surprise, especially around this time of year. Before the holidays I happened to be at Strangebrew and ordered a Grimbergen Double Ale. I had never had anything by Grimbergen, and it was a new tap, so I thought it best to become acquainted.

For starters, this was a brown ale. Not heavy like a New Castle, it reminded me of a...

TK’s New Year Brandy Fizz

Friday, January 2nd, 2009
I always have been a fan of cognac andbrandy.  Actually, I guess I would have to say that I have been a cognac and brandy fan since I have been an adult, but that is being nit picky since I cannot remember anything before that. This New Year's Eve we had some friends over, and I decided to make up a new drink with brandy that was light and fun.  So, I cooked up a Brandy Fizz. TK's New Year Brandy Fizz
  • 3 parts brandy (I used a wonderful XO brandy)
  • 1 part sour mix
  • 1 part lemon-lime soda
  • ice
Put ice, brandy, and sour mix in...
