Sam Adams Imperial Trio

by J Frazzetta on March 31st, 2009
Spring will be here in no time, so I’ve decided to lump in three winter beers before I have to convert to lighter fare.  This year Sam Adams rolled out three different imperial beers: a stout, double bock and white ale.  I grabbed a bottle of each, and over the course of a week managed to test each one.  Good thing I didn’t try them in the same night. First we have the Imperial Stout. At 9.2% this was the weakest of the three.  It had a very good roasted flavor and poured very dark and thick out of the bottle. ...

Monkey Madness

by Michele on March 26th, 2009
My fascination with all drinks light and fruity continues.  This past Saturday, March Madness was apparent in our house, and a plan was made that pleased everyone.  My husband (a Baltimore native) and his friend would watch the Maryland game, while my friend (conveniently the wife of aforementioned friend) and I went shopping.  When we returned there would be food and drinks for all.  (Just so no one worries about the men being hungry, there was a round of snacks for them while we shopped.) Our menu was pretty diverse.  We had homemade eggplant dip, coconut chicken tenders, gyro spring rolls,...

Blackberry Witbier + Vanilla Bean Ice Cream =

by J Frazzetta on March 24th, 2009
I usually don't revisit old posts, but a force compelled me to try something different.  A prerequisite for this post would be for you to check out the one I wrote about Sam Adams Blackberry Witbier.  Did you read it yet?  No? I can wait, go check it out.  Have you checked it?  Good. First, you’ll need a pint glass, a bottle of Blackberry Witbier, vanilla ice cream, a spoon and a straw.  Pour a few ounces of the beer in the glass and make sure to tilt the glass to reduce foam.  Do not fill more than halfway just...

Tropical Surprise

by Michele on March 19th, 2009
My husband's birthday is this Saturday, but all four kids were going to be home last weekend, so it seemed the best day to celebrate.  As one who likes to plan and throw parties, I decided that it would be fun to invite some friends and family and have a surprise party. To keep things simple, I made a few appetizers, telling the soon-to-be-surprised birthday boy that we were having munchies for dinner.  However, that would be the start of the party, and we would order pizza later.  Now, the food portion of the party was complete. Next, I decided to create...

Harpoon Brewery’s St. Patrick’s Day Festival, 3/7/09

by J Frazzetta on March 17th, 2009
For this article call me John O’Frazzetta, and a top o’ th' morning to you.  Every year Harpoon Brewery puts on a two day gathering with food, music and, yes, plenty of fresh beer on tap.  Amidst all the ale and merriment, this Italian boy felt a wee bit Irish. Harpoon Brewery is located in south Boston.  For this event, there were shuttle buses from South Station and the SilverLine Bus, which brought you within a few blocks of the brewery.  We took the SilverLine and followed a crowd of green-clad folks to the brewery.  I could see the gates from...
