Bottle/Tap: Bottle
I decided to treat myself and stop by one of my Manchester spots to grab a mix six. Going through the selection I noticed that Harpoon had a new limited release; you know me and limited releases, I was all over it. I grabbed one and a few others that looked good and headed home.
I put the stout in the fridge for a bit then went back out to pick up the pizza. I came back and poured it in my trusty pint glass and was pulled in by the aroma. A good stout or porter should have a great smoky smell, and this one was amazing.
I didn’t want to drink it at first because it looked so nice, but I was thirsty and had to taste it. I had to put the glass down and get back to the food; without noticing I had drunk half the pint. This was a great tasting stout. There was a burned flavor and a hint of chocolate that was better than most stouts I had drunk in recent memory. (more…)

Enough time has passed, and I thought it wise to review a Dogfish Head beer, since I enjoy most of their brews so much. A while back I tried this pale ale, and I was surprised in the best way possible. When it comes to pale ales, I find some of them can be hit or miss. Overall many taste the same, though some stand out, but it is hard to strike that balance between too bitter and not bitter enough. Enter Dogfish Head.
This pale was a 5% and had been in the fridge for a short amount of time before pouring. At first sip I got a solid bitter bite, and I was almost fearful that this would be a lot more bitter than I had planned. As it turned out this wasn’t so bad after all, and once the beer hit room temperature the flavor evened out. Sometimes you’ll get a pale ale that only intensifies as it gets warmer, not here. (more…)
Recently, there was a posting on Idea Offer , a Wasabi Ventures property, about what should be the official drink of the game of polo. I always have been intrigued by the game, and it is on my things-to-do list to attend a match some day.
The answers to the idea request were wide and varied, but the three winners ended up being from Captain, LaShan Arceneaux, and Mirilee. Of these the one that was of the most interest to me was from LaShan:
Pimms Cup is the official drink of polo. It is a gin. There is a drink called polo, that can be made using the gin:
1 oz gin
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 tbsp orange juice
Shake all ingredients with ice, strain into a cocktail glass, and serve.
But these days all types of drinks and food are found at polo matches because people are allowed to bring in food and drink to most matches. We bring tons of stuff and then share with our neighbor and vice versa.
While I have never had a polo, I am sure I will be trying it soon. It even sounds like a drink that would work for a brunch spread.
Here is to the sound of the thundering hooves and the excitement of another chukker!
Two weeks ago, the editors at Parched No More posted their top ten choices for Thanksgiving cocktails. As hard as it was to narrow the list down to ten drinks, it seemed daunting to choose one favorite. With a variety of drinks from which to choose, including martinis, a margarita, a frappe, a cider drink, an eggnog, and a wine-tail, the options seemed overwhelming.
However, polling has ended, and our readers have spoken. We are pleased to announce that the Pumkinlicious Martini from ECO-BAR was chosen as the favorite drink for Thanksgiving. In order to create this delicious beverage for your Turkey Day celebration, we have posted the recipe below. (more…)
Bottle/Tap: Bottle, 22oz
I was going over the beers I had to sample and came across this large bottle. Nothing can motivate you to drink a 22-ounce bottle of beer more than the rainy weather. I busted out the big glass, took the beer from the fridge and gave it a good pour. Good color and strong aroma, this beer had me at hello.
There was a bitter flavor, to be expected from any pale beer, but it wasn’t overpowering. I think having it in the fridge for about 40 minutes then giving a straight pour into the glass helped the flavor open up. After the foam settled I really enjoyed the taste of this beer and found it hard to put it down. I had to put it down so I could eat; you get my point. (more…)
