Beer

Well, I didn’t get the beer shed that I was hoping for, but I did get a Mr. Beer kit that I’ve already put to use.  I’ve been writing about beer for quite some time, I should at least try to make my own and see how it turns out.  I mean, I’ve tried plenty of beer, making it should complete the cycle.

I used the initial pack that came with the kit, a pale ale, and now I’ve got about a month to wait before I actually can taste it.  So far I’ve mixed all the components, and now it has to sit in the plastic keg for a little over a week before I bottle.  After that, we have to wait another two weeks to drink it; the anticipation is killing me. Beer

Coastal WheatBottle/Tap: Bottle

To mix it up a bit, I’m going to throw in a lighter beer to make us all wish it were 80 degrees and sunny outside.  I found this at one of my usual spots and thought I would give it a try.  Plus, I get tired of drinking dark beers in winter; you need to change it up after a while.

This is a hefeweizen by nature; it is brewed with lemon peel to give it a bit of a sweet flavor.  According to the label the lemons come from California. I’m not sure if that is supposed to help with the flavor or impress us. Either way it still tasted fine to me.  You could tell me that you scoured the earth for some fancy ingredient, or that you went to a supermarket and bought a crate of it, I’ll still treat your beer the same. Frozen Drinks, Liquor, Margaritas, Recipes

Over on Idea Offer, a request was put out for the best ideas for cocktails that have ice cream as an ingredient.  And the winning idea came from Navakanth Kanapala for his Strawberry Margarita Fizz.  Here it is as described by Navakanth:

strawberryStrawberry Margarita Fizz

Sugar for coating rims of glasses
1-1/2 cups softened strawberry ice cream
1/2 cup chopped strawberries, plus whole strawberries for garnish
1 ounce tequila, or to taste
1/2 teaspoon fresh lime juice
1/3 cup chilled club soda
Garnish: lime slices

Rim edges of two highball glasses with sugar, and set aside.  Place ice cream, chopped strawberries, tequila, and lime juice in a blender.  Mix until all ingredients are combined and smooth.  Divide strawberry mixture between the two glasses, and top each with half of the club soda.  Stir gently to combine.  Garnish with limes and strawberries, if desired.

Makes me want to get some ice cream and umbrellas and head to the beach!

Beer

120 MinuteBottle/Tap: Bottle

WARNING!  This beer is not to be taken lightly. If you are not a trained professional (like me?), please do not attempt to drink this beer by yourself.  If you do happen to drink this by yourself, do not drink it all at once- trust me.

As the above warning states, this beer is a beast at 18%.  The myth surrounding this brew was almost too good to resist, so when I found a bottle a few months ago I had to buy it.  I had the beer in the fridge for a bit to cool, then let it stand on the counter before I actually opened it to let it come to room temperature.  Using a wine glass, since I didn’t have a snifter, I poured about half the bottle in and put it on the table. Mixed Drinks, Recipes

Married to a Baltimore native but living in New England, the amount of Ravens games that we can watch are limited.  So, when the Ravens had a Monday night game a few weeks ago, I decided to create a fun dinner to accompany the game.  Serving raven didn’t seem like a good idea, thus I opted to create a purple dinner menu.  Included in the menu were eggplant salsa and wine poached pears.  Both of those dishes were delicious and purple.

The next thing I needed to do was create a purple cocktail.  It would have been simple if we had Chambord, but unfortunately we didn’t.  Rather than taking a trip to the liquor store, I decided to use basic art lessons to create a plum-hued beverage.  Unfortunately, I learned that combining blue and red liquids does not necessarily create a purple liquid.
