2 for 1
by J Frazzetta on December 7th, 2009
This past week I made a triumphant return to StrangeBrew for a burger and a few beers. Since I hadn’t been for some time, I wanted to try a few different brews and make the most of my visit. I picked Switchback Pale Ale and Sebago Brewing’s Slick Nick to wash down my tasty burger.
First we have Switchback, which I’ve had before in Burlington, Vermont, and I haven’t been able to find it anywhere. According to our waiter, the beer is starting to make its way south and could appear in more bars in the area. That is great news...
Keoki Coffee
by TK on December 4th, 2009
Recently, there was a request at Idea Offer for a good cocktail that has coffee as an ingredient. The winning choice was an interesting drink called Keoki Coffee.
The winning poster was sjks0427 (catchy handle!), and this is what he/she wrote:
There is a really good drink called a Keoki Coffee which has Kahlua, dark rum, brandy and creme de cacao (quarter shot of each), then add coffee and top with whipped cream. Very yummy. A lot of bars offer a version of this that include only 3 of the 4 liquors, but the original version is as stated above.
The recipe sounds...
Beer Review: Harpoon, Chocolate Stout
by J Frazzetta on November 30th, 2009
Bottle/Tap: Bottle
I decided to treat myself and stop by one of my Manchester spots to grab a mix six. Going through the selection I noticed that Harpoon had a new limited release; you know me and limited releases, I was all over it. I grabbed one and a few others that looked good and headed home.
I put the stout in the fridge for a bit then went back out to pick up the pizza. I came back and poured it in my trusty pint glass and was pulled in by the aroma. A good stout or porter should have a...
Beer Review: Dogfish Head, Shelter Pale Ale
by J Frazzetta on November 26th, 2009
Bottle/Tap: Bottle
Enough time has passed, and I thought it wise to review a Dogfish Head beer, since I enjoy most of their brews so much. A while back I tried this pale ale, and I was surprised in the best way possible. When it comes to pale ales, I find some of them can be hit or miss. Overall many taste the same, though some stand out, but it is hard to strike that balance between too bitter and not bitter enough. Enter Dogfish Head.
This pale was a 5% and had been in the fridge for a short amount of...
The Official Drink of Polo
by TK on November 23rd, 2009
Recently, there was a posting on Idea Offer , a Wasabi Ventures property, about what should be the official drink of the game of polo. I always have been intrigued by the game, and it is on my things-to-do list to attend a match some day.
The answers to the idea request were wide and varied, but the three winners ended up being from Captain, LaShan Arceneaux, and Mirilee. Of these the one that was of the most interest to me was from LaShan:
Pimms Cup is the official drink of polo. It is a...
