Beer Review: Monk’s Cafe, Flemish Sour Ale

I know what you’re thinking: sour ale?  Why would anyone want to drink something that is sour?  I’ve heard of sour ales before, but I had never tried one. When I came across this I thought I would give it a try.  Much to my surprise, I kind of enjoyed it.

Valentine’s Day Cocktails

Valentine's Day.

When you hear those two words, what is your reaction?  Do you see hearts and flowers and eagerly anticipate the holiday that you will spend with your one true love?  Perhaps you roll your eyes back and wish that you could hide under the covers all day?  Or maybe you really have no opinion about it, it just is another day of the week?

Beer Review: Fizz’s First Pale Ale

Here we are folks, the fruits of my labor, my very own beer.  To be honest I’ve already had a few bottles, I just wanted to make sure they tasted better than the first one I opened.  My problem was that I opened it too soon and should have given it another day or so.  I did find that if this sits in the fridge for a day or two it helps with the flavor.

I have tried sake several times.  With full apologies to Dr. Seuss and Green Eggs and Ham:

I have tried it cold,
I have tried it hot,
I have sipped it in pretty glasses,
I bravely tried it as a shot.
I would not drink it again,
I would not take any more sips,
I firmly refused to try it
I announced with hands on my hips.

I held this position on sake for quite some time.  Although I had tried a variety of sakes, none were enjoyable or tasty.  However, last weekend at the Boston Wine Expo, I finally found sake that was enjoyable.  Read More
