2006 Keenan Cabernet Sauvignon
by Maria Glade on October 27th, 2010 | Pressed for Thought, Wine
Perhaps it is because we are headed out to Spring Mountain in Napa, or perhaps the cool fall air is creating the ideal atmosphere for bigger, richer reds, but either way Keenan Cabernet Sauvignon is on my mind. It is an example of the great California wines that are able to make use of the intensity of Napa fruit without losing the balance and structure that gives the wine finesse and personality. Arguably, this is one of the best domestic Cabs I have had in some time.

Saranac, Irish Red Ale

Old Wine Spirit in a Very New World Wine
by Maria Glade on October 20th, 2010 | Pressed for Thought, Wine
I think of Red Zinfandel as a truly American varietal, despite its ancient origins in Croatia and its presence in Italian Primitivo’s from Puglia. Yes, I know the varietal is nearly the same, but North American wine makers have created something truly and essentially unique in Red Zinfandel’s that sets it apart—they are bold and unabashedly big with just a little spice. I would argue, it is a little like our American sensibility, and in that same spirit, no two zins are exactly the same.
Last night we sampled several red zins for a tasting at the shop, and each
