I know what you are thinking, because I thought the same thing: lobster and beer, sweet. Well, I hate to be the one to burst bubbles; there is no lobster in this red ale. Trust me, I’d know. I love lobster as much as the next person, but all I could find was a good red ale.
Earlier last week we had gone for dinner at a seafood restaurant and took the leftovers home. I decided to reheat my fried shrimp and scallops, then figured this beer would fit the motif I had established. The ale had a nice red tint in my glass and a light aroma. I was tempted to drop in some drawn butter; rather, I opted to drink it straight. I was greeted by a pleasant flavor.
As I made my way through the leftovers, I noted that the beer reminded me of last summer when I was on the Maine coast eating lobster with friends. I made sure that the beer wasn’t too cold and enjoyed the smooth aftertaste. There was a hint of bitter flavor, not enough to take away from the beer at all, though.
I am a little upset about the faulty advertising. However, lobster and beer probably wouldn’t taste that good. It can’t be any worse than lobster ice cream, only in Maine, which I have enjoyed before.
As summer approaches and you turn to the sea’s bounty on a warm evening, I would recommend having a few of these on hand to bring you right to the seashore. Spring hasn’t been around for long, and already I want the summer air.
