Bottle/Tap: Bottle
WARNING! This beer is not to be taken lightly. If you are not a trained professional (like me?), please do not attempt to drink this beer by yourself. If you do happen to drink this by yourself, do not drink it all at once- trust me.
As the above warning states, this beer is a beast at 18%. The myth surrounding this brew was almost too good to resist, so when I found a bottle a few months ago I had to buy it. I had the beer in the fridge for a bit to cool, then let it stand on the counter before I actually opened it to let it come to room temperature. Using a wine glass, since I didn’t have a snifter, I poured about half the bottle in and put it on the table.
The beer wasn’t going to drink itself, so I had to. Right out, the smell is huge. Using the wine glass helps funnel it to your nose. How did I drink it? Slowly, very slowly, this is a sipping beer no question about it folks. The taste was very strong, akin to a barley wine, and not a lot of that alcohol flavor you would expect. Bitter? Yes, but not as bad as I thought. Remember to sip.
This beer is hopped for 120 minutes and is a kick in the head if you don’t take it right. I drank my first half over the course of time and saved the rest for the next day. It was still good. I suggest sharing this with a friend, or buy two bottles, drink one now and let the other sit for a length of time and go back to it. This beer ages very well, and the comparison would be interesting.
