Bottle/Tap: Bottle
Considering the sun hadn’t shown his face in a month, I thought to mark the occasion I would have a summer beer to celebrate the heat. Maybe I should have picked a different beer. I have tried really hard to like Gritty’s, really I have, but this one didn’t seem to do the trick for me.
When I think of a summer beer I want something smooth and relaxing, that isn’t what I got. This was bitter, really bitter, and I wasn’t a fan of that. Sierra Nevada’s summer offering is bitter, but not as bitter as Gritty’s turned out to be. I noticed that it was pretty dry and left an odd taste that I tried to fight back with a hamburger. Thank goodness for the hamburger.
I was surprised at the lack of fruit or something sort of summery added to the mix of this beer. I know how Sam Adams does business, and maybe that is what I have come to expect. But most summer beers are pretty light and refreshing, this beer was heavy like a lager.
I was disappointed that Gritty’s let me down again. I first tried their Halloween Ale, and I was not impressed with that. I was hoping that this one would redeem Gritty’s for me. Eventually I will give Gritty’s another try, but I have to let that cool down before I jump in again. Maybe I should have been on the coast of Portland enjoying some chowder, a two pound lobster, a vat of butter and a baked potato to really grasp this beer. In that case I should plan a road trip and put this brew to the test.
Gritty’s didn’t do it for me, but it may work for you. Give it a go some time.
