Hook & LadderBottle/Tap: Bottle

Earlier last week there was a fire in southern New Hampshire.  It was a raging inferno consuming most of Merrimack.  Thankfully, there was a golden ale on hand to douse the flames and keep everything under control.  Yes, it was hot last week, and I might have been on fire, but sometimes the right beer can really quell your thirst.

In the tradition of Woodstock Inn’s Loon Golden, you can find the Hook and Ladder Golden Ale.  I decided to drink it on the hottest day last week with some grilled pork chops.  Truth be told, I put the chops on the driveway, and they cooked in minutes.  Despite all the other beers I had to try, I was glad to have a lighter ale on hand.  This was no time for a porter.

Like any golden ale, this poured out very clean in my glass and had a faint aroma.  It was refreshing and smooth, not too complex and hit the spot.  There was enough of a beer flavor to hold me over and no high alcohol percentage to kick me in the head.  I was happy, and the 4- alarm blaze was reduced to embers in no time.  I love it when beer comes to the rescue.

Although I would have preferred a fire truck full of this to use at my disposal, I settled with the bottle and made the most of it.  For the really hot days you need something that is smooth and refreshing to beat the heat.  If you like golden ales, give this a try, Woodstock Inn’s, or even Tire Bite by Flying Dog.  Why drink water when golden ales will do the trick?

Note: You should drink water, but beer is good, too.
