Bottle/Tap: Bottle
I spent some time with a friend a few weeks ago and brought over a few beers to sample. We were in the kitchen making mustard, which was fun, and I pulled out this black lager for the both of us to split. I like sampling beers with friends because you get another opinion besides your own and more insight on things. As the mustard did its thing, we began to sample.
I brought this because my friend enjoys dark beers, as do I, and I thought he would prove a valuable source. Right off we were both interested in the smoky aroma coming from our glasses. I noticed that the beer itself wasn’t very dark in color; it was dark but nothing jet-black. We proceeded to sample, and he mentioned that the flavor was also smoky but not heavy. There are times when you encounter black lagers that are very dark and very heavy; this beer was quite the opposite.
We found pretzels and began to test our mustard, which cleared my sinus problem, and found the beer washed everything down very well. I was happy that it wasn’t very bitter, and my friend was happy that it didn’t remind him of Guinness. Overall we were both surprised by this brew, and I wished that I grabbed a six instead of a few bottles. Such is the case whenever I sample beers. This beer cut the mustard with us; hopefully it will do the same for you.
