Bottle/Tap: Bottle
I always can go for a new fruit beer. Often I like to compare brands and see what other brewers do differently as I am always on the look out for something new. I have had one other pomegranate ale (Saranac puts out a hard to find delight), and I wanted to give Peak Organic a shot to see how they fared.
This beer had a normal gold color in my glass and nice smell to go along. I’m not sure if pomegranates have a smell, so I really can’t say that I smelled pomegranates, but I will say that it was inviting. It had a smooth taste with a slightly bitter piece toward the end but not enough to make you think it was a pale ale or something stronger. I did enjoy the flavor of the beer and noticed the bottle said it was made with acai berries.
Acai berries have been popping up everywhere as of late, so I did a little research and found out what they are. Acai comes from Brazilian palm trees, acai trees, and is harvested twice a year for the pulp of the palm and the small berries. Medical science has come to the conclusion that acai is good as an anti-oxidant, detoxification agent and increases energy. As far as beer goes, I’m not sure what it does to the brewing process, but I didn’t notice anything significantly different with the berries in the beer.
Berries aside, I enjoyed this beer as an alternative to the normal blueberry, apricot, strawberry and raspberry ales you find. Like everything from Peak Organic you can guarantee that this beer is natural and ‘good for you’ so you don’t have to feel too guilty if you accidentally drink a six-pack.
