strawberry-blondeBottle/Tap: Bottle

One of the best parts about living in New Hampshire is the ability to pick fresh produce.  I am no farmer, but there are plenty of folks in Hollis that are.  Last week I embarked, with some friends, to Hollis to pick strawberries before they went out of season.  After a few hours, and 28 pounds, later we headed back to core them and get them ready to make jam at another point.  I enjoyed a few Sierra Nevada’s and Harpoons during the process and considered it a good day all around.

A few days later I picked this beer and was transported back to strawberry picking in Hollis.  This ale had a very crisp, strong strawberry flavor that I was hooked on in a matter of sips.  It even smelled like a case of picked strawberries.  I know Abita’s Purple Haze has a solid raspberry flavor to it, but this ale was far better.

I’ve sampled many fruit beers, I haven’t written about all of them, and I will say that this one had the best taste out of them all.  The color was great, and it wasn’t a heavy beer by any means.  I was impressed by this beer on a few levels.  I’ve had several of the Sea Dog ales, and I think this one has a different feel to it that made it stick out more in my mind.  There are some fruit beers that you have you almost can forget the flavor while you are drinking them, this one wasn’t like that at all.

I haven’t had much by Pete’s Wicked, and now I plan on researching a little bit more.  Now if there was a way to sneak some of these while I was berry picking, it would a good afternoon indeed.
