Bottle/Tap: Bottle
I like beers that come with instructions. On the label of this beer it tells you to pour ¾ of the bottle into a glass, swirl the bottle and pour the rest on top. If you haven’t guessed already, this is a hefeweizen. Hefeweizens are one of my favorite beer styles for the summer: unfiltered, hazy appearance and a light bitter taste. Kellerweis scores on all levels.
As you figured, this beer was cloudy in my pint glass and looked very inviting. I liked the smell and dove in for a taste. There was an almost sweet taste to this beer, and it wasn’t very bitter at all. This tasted close to a Belgium ale, like a Leffe, and I was really getting into it on a lukewarm New England day.
So far I’ve been impressed with the beers I’ve picked out by Sierra Nevada, and this one could be in heavy rotation for my summer enjoyment. I didn’t have this beer cold, room temperature as usual, and that helped out with the flavor a lot. It is too bad that I didn’t have a lemon or something to drop in and see how it stood up to citrus, but I was just as happy to drink this straight. Some hefeweizens taste pretty similar and run of the mill, not this one. I was glad to drink something a little different that made me wish I bought a second bottle. If I had a nickel for every beer that I wished I bought a second bottle, I’d be able to buy a second bottle.
Summer is closing out so make sure to get in your summer beer drinking soon. If you want something different, I do suggest giving this Kellerweis a try.
