Beer

beershakeI usually don’t revisit old posts, but a force compelled me to try something different.  A prerequisite for this post would be for you to check out the one I wrote about Sam Adams Blackberry Witbier.  Did you read it yet?  No? I can wait, go check it out.  Have you checked it?  Good.

First, you’ll need a pint glass, a bottle of Blackberry Witbier, vanilla ice cream, a spoon and a straw.  Pour a few ounces of the beer in the glass and make sure to tilt the glass to reduce foam.  Do not fill more than halfway just yet.

Next, add a spoonful of ice cream, and stir it around.  Extra sugars in the ice cream will make the beer foamy and rise, so watch out for spill over.  Stir until it gets kind of thick.

This is the tough part: you have to taste it to make sure the beer to ice cream ratio is right.  There should be enough ice cream to make the drink smooth not enough to overpower the beer flavor.  You may have to add a little more ice cream, so you mostly taste blackberry and not much alcohol.

Once it tastes right you can pour in the rest of the bottle and add in more ice cream.  Figure that for every few ounces of beer you should add a spoonful of ice cream to even out that slightly bitter flavor.

When you have managed to master the ratio, and it took me a few tries, garnish with the straw.  I have a feeling his would work for most fruit beers, and I also understand adding ice cream to a dark porter helps smooth out the flavor as well.  That could be my next venture. Until then enjoy the beershake.
