Bottle/Tap: Bottle
Some beers taste better on someone else’s tab, even if that tab happens to be gift certificates to a fancy restaurant you wouldn’t otherwise patronize. On such an occasion, we happened to be drawn toward Riddles Tavern which is located within Buckley’s Great Steaks. I like other brews by Fuller’s and didn’t have a chance to give this a shot when it was released some months back; noticing it on the menu, I opted for a bottle and got to keep it afterward. This was number 114,291 of 125,000.
The interesting thing about this brew is the mixture

After a long day of seeing family, eating and then eating some more it was about time to wind down from another successful Thanksgiving. You may have read that there are wise choices for after dinner drinks to ease your stomach. Instead of following those directions (because Grappa is pretty terrible, let me just say) I decided to pay dues to a beer that I had tried once but never given my full attention to. Based on a recommendation from a colleague, I wanted to give this oatmeal stout another chance.

After looking through my cooler the other day, I realized that I had several fall beers to polish off before the true winter season set in and I would be turning to darker brews. Despite the tease we got at the end of last month, the temperature has returned to normal here in the northeast and I can get back on track to drinking fall beers. The first of my fall beers comes to us from Magic Hat all the way up in South Burlington, Vermont. I’m a sucker for most of their beers and this one was

Sometimes reviewing beers is better done in a collaborative environment and for this week’s review I’ve asked a close friend, Travis, to weigh in on this porter. Travis is a local expert on dark beers and, you’ll see, he has a thing for alliteration. We each found a bottle of this Long Trail brew; gave it a whirl and shared our thoughts. Below is a close transcript of our conversation.
John: I used a regular pint glass for this one and poured about half in and found the aroma to be mellow.
Travis: I did the same and can agree

Having gone almost a full week without power up here in the frozen northeast, I thought it best to sample a beer that would warm my bones since the heating unit can’t seem to help me. Several weeks ago, after visiting a new beer store, I came across this interesting looking beer and thought I’d bring it home. Trust me, the situation was as lot more romantic than I made it sound, but I don’t want to bore you with the disgusting details. Instead I’ll tell you about yet another successful conquest.
As I mentioned above, it was damn
