Eco-friendly wine appears to be one of the hot trends in wine today. According to Paul Gregutt, at the SeattleTimes.com wine is a “fashion-driven business.” It is easy to see that wine would have trends, just as fashion does. Gregutt states that wine is also “entertainment” and must compete for the consumers’ entertainment – a thought-provoking idea. We can see how Gregutt would believe this, as wine and food trends come in and come out, just as other popular culture trends take off or fizzle out. The latest one appears to be eco-friendly wines.
Consumers today are very conscious of the impact they have on the environment. When given the choice to purchase a product that helps or is neutral to the environment, this is an appealing one. Organic wine is an alternative offered by some wineries today which are choosing to be eco-friendly. Just as many consumers are choosing to visit their local farmer’s market for their produce, the thought of selecting an organic wine is one they like very much. Making an eco-friendly choice while enjoying their daily life is just another way to help Mother Earth.
How ideal to think you can enjoy delicious wines and also do something to help the planet. Wineries need to be certified as organic wineries so they can offer organic wine. With the impact we’ve seen on our environment, certainly this eco-friendly trend is one that is likely to be a long-lasting one that will appeal to many consumers.
Just this weekend many celebrated Earth Hour, an hour on the evening of Saturday, March 27th where the lights are turned out to remind people of the impact of climate change. The Eiffel Tower and other buildings around the world turned out their lights in support of Earth Hour. It’s easy to see that many who would support a holiday such as Earth Hour would prefer to turn to an organic wine for their dinner wine or that special celebration.
Being eco-friendly is just kinder and gentler to the earth. What a wonderful way to enjoy your favorite indulgence of wine and also support Mother Nature!
