Playoff Purple

Cocktails, Martinis

This past Sunday my husband and I made plans to watch the AFC Championship game.  My husband is a fan of Sunday football, but this game was a “must see” event, as he is a native of Baltimore.  To enjoy the festivities, we invited our best friends, Tom and Vicki, and planned a menu for the evening.

As we all enjoy a cocktail or two while watching the game, one of us usually tries to create something new for a gathering.  Being the host, I decided to create a drink for this occasion.  As a person who likes to coordinate whenever possible, I had a few considerations in mind.

  1. The drink should be purple to match the Ravens.
  2. The drink should not be heavy or too sweet.
  3. Being bitterly cold in New Hampshire, it shouldn’t be a frozen/blender drink.

With these thougths in mind, I created the Playoff Purple.  Unfortunately, it seems that this drink was not a good luck charm for the Ravens.  However, an evening with best friends trumps a loss during a football game.  (Note, that is my personal reflection and possibly not my husband’s!)

Even though this drink may not help your favorite purple-adorned team, it is tasty and well worth making.  Also, don’t forget to check Parched No More in the coming weeks.  Our favored team for the Super Bowl is the Cardinals, which means it’s time to create a red cocktail!

Playoff Purple

1-1/2 oz. raspberry liqueur

1-1/2 oz. vodka

1-1/2 oz. cranberry juice

berry seltzer

Fill a martini shaker with ice.  Pour liqueur, vodka, and juice into shaker.  Cover, and shake well (15-20 shakes).  Strain martini into 6 ounce martini glass, and fill with seltzer.  Stir gently.

Makes 1 martini.

Now since the Pittsburgh steelers handled the Raven’s quite well… I think it only fitting you come up with a black and gold drink :)
