When I hear the word “rogue” several things pop into my mind and none of them have to do with Sarah Palin. I envision a comic book character or a brewer that knows how to catch your attention. Rogue Brewing has such offerings as their ‘Dead Guy Ale’ or ‘Chipotle Ale’, but this time I went with something fitting for the season. I also dig these guys because they use the large bottles for distribution; I find that the taste of a 22 ounce bottle is by far better than a regular 12 ounce.
Do not be mistaken by the picture on the bottle, this beer will not increase your muscle mass and make you want to flex. It will, however, encourage you to stop and enjoy the honey and orange blend that has been created. I left this in the fridge for a while and poured it in my wide-mouthed glass to let it come to temperature. The hazy, cloudy color was all too inviting and I could smell a faint orange aroma right out. I had a taste; the orange struck me first with a light honey aftertaste. It wasn’t too carbonated and only made the beer go down easier.
As the glass warmed up over time; the orange flavor subsided and the honey smoothed everything out. You know those candies that start out as one flavor then over time change to another flavor? The same thing was going on in this glass. Over time the honey aftertaste was more predominate and the orange fell to the background. I didn’t have an orange slice to drop in the glass, which means I’ll have to buy another one and try again–shucks.
This is a good mid-day beer with lunch or a humid day when you are looking for something without a lot of hassle. I enjoy Rogue because they are straight forward about the flavor and don’t mask anything.
