I’m a Bitters Old Man

This is what happens when I make threats, apparently. Here I sit, listening to The Beatles' first album and mulling over what I could possibly do to review bitters. For the uninitiated, bitters is an infusion of several herbs and botanicals that come together to craft a spirit with a distinctly bitter taste. Mainly used as a flavoring agent and not a drink in and of itself, bitters has a variety of great uses in both cocktails and cooking.

Gotham City

Hi, everyone.

Thank you for joining me for this month's cocktail.  I have recently been experimenting with port and some of its possibilities for mixing.  I enjoy a nice glass of ruby or tawny port during a cold winter night or after dinner.  However, outside of a Portonic I never really did much with it during the spring and summer months.... until now.

Uncle Charlie’s Punch

Thanksgiving always conjures certain thoughts for me:  a big turkey dinner (obviously), watching the local football game with family and friends, and a warm house to enter after the game.  Throughout my childhood we would attend the Thanksgiving game with my dad, and I always felt frozen by the time we were home.  A hot bath and a cup of cocoa were what I needed.

As an adult, there hasn't always been a local game to watch, but there were plenty of family games of football and long walks throughout the neighborhood.  The results still are the same- I am freezing

It's after 5:00 pm on a Friday afternoon that is the start of a 3-day weekend.  Well, sort of a 3-day weekend.  I am sure there will be some work on Monday, but it won't be a full workday.  So, as far as I am concerned, it is a 3-day weekend.
