Good day to you, Avid Reader; in an effort to showcase more beers from cans, I decided to break into a variety pack I’ve had sitting for a few months. I was just waiting for the right time of year to unleash the contents upon you and figured now would be as good a time as any. This week we are checking out some brews by the Butternuts folks from upstate New York. I should mention to you this is not my first encounter with these beers -- but we’ll get to that later on. To the tasting!

Sierra Nevada, Ruthless Rye IPA

Before we start this excursion, Avid Reader, I should preface that I do not drive a Chevy, nor do I reside by a levee and the rye we are sampling this week is in a beer instead of whisky. You can still sing about the day the music died if you’d like to; I’ll be telling you about my new favorite spring time IPA courtesy of the folks at Sierra Nevada.
Back in 2009 I fell victim to the amazing Torpedo Extra IPA. Then in 2010 it was the Glissade that did me in, and for

Nepenthe Ales, East Coast Pale

In keeping with the theme of staying local, I wanted to talk about another beer that was brewed not too far from my current residence. This particular brewer is a subsidiary of The Candia Road Brewing Company, right in Manchester NH, and I might have to check them out in person one day. The label drew me in and so did the name, since it took me a few minutes to figure out how to pronounce it. Either way, the slogan on the side reads "post-modern takes on an ancient tradition"; how can you go wrong?

Squam Brewing, Golden IPA

The time has come, Avid Reader. A time to be born, a time to die, a time to cast away stones and a time to drink lighter bodied beers. Yes, although I have some darker brews waiting in the wings, I’m going to start looking toward ales, lagers, pales, reds and IPAs. Keeping it local this time, I decided to go with a beer by a young brewery based in Holderness, New Hampshire. Where is Holderness, you might ask? Easy; start in Nashua and go naath (north), then turn off the highway before Plymouth. To be honest I

Samuel Adams, Brewer’s Choice Variety Pack
by J Frazzetta on March 26th, 2012 | Beer
This variety pack has been available since February and I’ve been working through it the last week or so just to share my findings with you, Avid Reader. When you figure that four of the six beers here are meant for spring, they should have just released this a month later. Rather than split hairs, let’s get down to business and start with the new offerings.
White Water IPA – crisp and clean IPA with no real surprises here, and I enjoyed it. I would suggest this for folks that are hesitant about an IPA beer and may want to
