Samuel Adams, East-West Kolsch and Rustic Saison

This spring Sam Adams seems to be trying out several new flavors and I thought to give their newest concoctions a try when I picked up a variety pack.  I don’t always drink kolsch style beers, but I’ll give anything a try once, at least once.

When it comes to kolsch beers they are pretty light in color and have similar body.  For the most part they are great summer beers and can be quite refreshing.  The East-West Kolsch was interesting with a citrus flavor from some of the hops that had been used.  The aromas for this beer

Samuel Adams, Chocolate Bock

I first encountered this beer back in the winter of 2004.  It came in a large bottle, 22 ounces, and had a cool looking seal on the front.  It was expensive at over $10 a bottle, and as a senior in college you have to make some tough choices: eat well for a few days or have a really awesome beer.  The beer won.  We were able to find this beer around Christmas every year, and then it stopped showing up on shelves.  Disheartened we awaited the arrival of Chocolate Bock again.  This year, Sam Adams repackaged the mythical

Sam Adams, Stony Brook Red

I’m always up for a red ale and I picked this up because the bottle was cool looking.  Well, it was red - I just don’t think I let it age long enough.  There are some beers you can buy and crack open the same day.  There are some beers that you should buy and forget about for months and then rediscover in the bottom of the cellar like an old friend you’ve had tied up under stairwell.  This beer was one of the latter.

Beer Review: Sam Adams’, Coastal Wheat

To mix it up a bit, I’m going to throw in a lighter beer to make us all wish it were 80 degrees and sunny outside.  I found this at one of my usual spots and thought I would give it a try.  Plus, I get tired of drinking dark beers in winter; you need to change it up after a while.
