If you have watched the Dutch national soccer team, you may have wondered why they are wearing orange when the flag is red, blue, and white. The answer is that orange is the color of the Dutch royal family. I am a big fan of Dutch soccer, so I decided to concoct a drink in their honor.
Dutch Lemonade

1 shot of orange-infused vodka

splash of cranberry juice

splash of sour mix

splash of lemon-lime soda

ice

Combine the vodka and sour mix with ice in a martini shaker, and shake well. Pour over ice in a low ball glass. Add cranberry juice and lemon-lime soda, and garnish with cherries.

Long live the Prince of Orange!

I always have been a fan of cognac andbrandy. Actually, I guess I would have to say that I have been a cognac and brandy fan since I have been an adult, but that is being nit picky since I cannot remember anything before that.

This New Year’s Eve we had some friends over, and I decided to make up a new drink with brandy that was light and fun. So, I cooked up a Brandy Fizz.

TK’s New Year Brandy Fizz

3 parts brandy (I used a wonderful XO brandy)

1 part sour mix

1 part lemon-lime soda

ice

Put ice, brandy, and sour mix in a shaker. Shake with vigor for at least 30 shakes. Pour the mixture over ice in a rocks glass. Top with lemon-lime soda. Can be garnished with cherries or an orange wheel.

In New Hampshire, this past weekend was filled with lots of wintry weather. It started with a snowstorm that ran from mid-afternoon Friday to early Saturday morning. As we were digging out from that storm, there was a warning of another, bigger snowstorm all day Sunday. Pleasantly trapped at home on Friday night (and preparing for the same on Sunday) with each other’s company, tasty snacking food, and holiday movies, my husband and I were ready.

However, when the opportunity was presented to leave our domicile on Saturday, we were ready to go! As we were shopping for a few last minute Christmas gifts, we received a call from our best friends with news that they were available for dinner. What luck!

After dinner at our favorite restaurant, Unum’s, the night was still young, and there was a football game that certain people (read, my husband) wanted to watch, so we moved the gathering to our house. My girlfriend and I were less interested in who won the mighty battle of Ravens versus Cowboys, so we decided to work on perfecting a drink for us to enjoy while we chatted.

Combining sweet, sour, and bubbles made a drink that was fun to drink. So, while our husbands watched the game (and maybe napped?), we had many laughs and savored our new creations. Whether you are avoiding the football game or want to have a delicious drink while watching, this creation is worthy of a try!
Too Busy for Football-tini

3 oz. melon liqueur

3 oz. raspberry liqueur

3 oz. vodka

1-1/2 oz. sour mix

6 oz. diet citrus-flavored soda

Fill shaker with ice, and add melon and raspberry liqueurs, vodka, and sour mix. Shake well. Divide equally among two 8-ounce martini glasses. Top each with half of the soda, and stir.
