My husband's birthday is this Saturday, but all four kids were going to be home last weekend, so it seemed the best day to celebrate. As one who likes to plan and throw parties, I decided that it would be fun to invite some friends and family and have a surprise party.
To keep things simple, I made a few appetizers, telling the soon-to-be-surprised birthday boy that we were having munchies for dinner. However, that would be the start of the party, and we would order pizza later. Now, the food portion of the party was complete.

Like many others, this Sunday my family and I will host a small gathering for the Super Bowl. Having neither of our favored teams (Ravens and Patriots) in this game, we have chosen a team by default, the Cardinals.
Of course, not everyone I know is rooting for the Cardinals. Some of my friends and family members have deemed the Steelers as the team that should win this game. So, out of respect for their thoughts (no matter how much I disagree), I have created a couple Pittsburgh drinks.

Creole Collins

Everyone knows Emeril Lagasse for his food. And on a recent trip to New Orleans, my wife and I went to his restaurant for dinner (Read the review at our sister publication Tasty Thoughts). While waiting at the bar for our table, I ordered a signature drink from their beverage menu, a Creole Collins.
Ingredients:
- 1 Part fresh lime juice
- 1 Part Cognac
- 1 Part spiced rum
- Splash of simple syrup
Combine all the ingredients in a martini shaker filled with ice and shake well. Serve over ice in a highball glass
