When I was a kid I used to love to get Ring Pops; remember those things? My favorite was the cherry flavor because they were the sweetest ones. Second to the cherry was the watermelon flavor. Funny how watermelon itself doesn’t taste like ‘watermelon flavor’; they have to add four tons of sugar to get that sweetness, which watermelon has naturally. Never in my wildest dreams did I think a beer could capture that watermelon flavor. Well, kids, I’m here to tell you that sometimes dreams can come true.

February is a month filled with small, yet memorable, holidays. From Groundhog Day to Valentine's Day to Presidents' Day, we recognize each to varying degrees. Obviously, out of those three Valentine's Day is the biggest. Other the past few weeks we provided two different cocktail recipes to use for that holiday. Neither Groundhog Day nor Presidents' Day have garnered any cocktail love, but there is a new-to-me holiday that will be receiving a recipe in its honor- National Margarita Day.

Fourth of July Martini

Our Fourth of July was quiet this year. We had no children at home, and the couple with which we were to spend the day was unavailable due to illness. So, with a wide open schedule, we decide to have a day of cooking and relaxing.
After a shopping expedition that took us to our favorite butcher, the liquor store, and the grocery store, it was time to begin working in our kitchen. We had a list of items we wanted to create: two infused vodkas, homemade sausage patties, a slowly braised prime rib, and a new version of chicken salad.

For me, summertime conjures thoughts of watermelon. This fruit is a favorite among the ages. What is more fun for a child than eating watermelon off the rind, allowing the juice to drip down your chin, and getting to spit the seeds?
