Bottle/Tap: Bottle

When I was a kid I used to love to get Ring Pops; remember those things?  My favorite was the cherry flavor because they were the sweetest ones.  Second to the cherry was the watermelon flavor.  Funny how watermelon itself doesn’t taste like ‘watermelon flavor’; they have to add four tons of sugar to get that sweetness, which watermelon has naturally.  Never in my wildest dreams did I think a beer could capture that watermelon flavor.  Well, kids, I’m here to tell you that sometimes dreams can come true.

To heighten my childish fantasy, I decided to cook up some Tyson Chicken Nuggets and sweet potato fries (because you have to be health conscious) for dinner to see if this beer lived up to my expectations.  Ripping open the cap reminded me of tearing open cellophane and producing a sugary treat.  No word of a lie, this beer smelled sweeter than it tasted; often times when that happens I get the reverse effect and the beer smells funky but is far too sweet.

At the bottom of the label you’ll notice the slogan ‘strangely refreshing’ and, by George, are they right.  The sweet aroma was all around me and the taste of dry ale was pouring down my throat.  There was no hint of bitter to this beer at all, which impressed me.  The part that worried me the most was how the beer would do with a change in temperature.

Right out of the refrigerator this beer tasted amazing and with the rise in room temperature approaching that unmistakable scent remained and the beer tasted just fine.  Very few fruit flavored beers I’ve sampled taste this good when they come up to room temperature, and many of them don’t even smell half as good from the start.  I was impressed with this brew, and I have a feeling you will be too. With a name like Hooker you know it has to be good.

Now if someone could market banana bread beer, then we’d be getting somewhere.

So what you’re really saying is that the name ‘Hooker’ is synonymous with ‘good’?
