Now women have even more reason to enjoy that glass of Merlot or favorite Chablis with their dinner. It can help keep them skinny! The NYDailyNews.com shares the news of a study from the Archives of Internal Medicine. The study included 19,220 women who were 38 years of age or older. All were followed for 12.9 years on average. In this study, 41.3% of the women did become either overweight or obese, but the women who did drink gained approximately 3.5 lbs as compared to the non-drinking women who gained 8 lbs.

St. Patrick’s Day Wine Pairings
by Michele on March 17th, 2010 | Wine
Today is St. Patrick's Day, which means that many people will be enjoying a dinner of corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, and Irish soda bread. At my home, we're delaying the celebration by a day, as our Wednesday night is quite full. Quite shockingly, all evening events are not canceled in honor of this day! Who knew?
Regardless, I need to work on beverage pairings for tomorrow evening. While the obvious choice is Guinness or Harp's, I am not a beer drinker. Not even for one day of the year. Last year, I created an icy, green beverage, the Minty

Aaron Wines

The Boston Wine Expo is an amazing event. Over two days, you are surrounded by hundreds of wines and dozens of foods. Even when you reduce those numbers to the amount that you actually sample, there still are many names and faces to remember. At the end of the weekend, the most memorable are the ones that will stay with you.
One such memorable winery was Aaron Wines based in Paso Robles, California. I was able to speak with the owner, Aaron Jackson, about his Petite Sirah, his vineyards, and his first trip to the chilly and snowy

Sassy Bitch
by Michele on January 27th, 2010 | Wine
Nothing like an exciting title to get some attention! That is exactly what those two words did for me on Saturday. Attending the Boston Wine Expo, I had spoken with many wineries and distributors and was starting to feel a little overwhelmed with the data. Even though I love wine, I really was thinking it was time to talk about something else, when I noticed the fuschia and black sign with the title, "Sassy Bitch". As I enjoy moments of sassy-ness, I decided I could muster the energy to talk to one more winery before moving onto food.

Piscassic Pond Winery
by Michele on October 9th, 2009 | Mead, Wine
In September, our beer reviewer, John, attended the Wicked Wine & Brew Fest. While at this festival, he was able to sample many excellent products, including mead from Piscassic Pond Winery. With little knowledge about mead, except for references to it in literature, such as Beowulf and Harry Potter, an interview with the owners seemed to be a good idea. Meeting with Roberta Gerkin, one half of the mead making team, I learned quite a bit about this historical drink.
Piscassic Pond Winery received its license in 2003 and sold its first batch of mead (also known as honey

Wicked Wine & Brew Fest, Mel’s, Litchfield NH, 9/12/09
by J Frazzetta on September 14th, 2009 | Beer, Shopping, Wine
Despite a little rain and some overcast conditions, Mel’s Funway Park was bustling with eager patrons attending the second Wicked Wine & Brew Fest. The event had been held last year in Hollis, and this year was changed to a more central location near Manchester. Either way, people were out in droves, and the goodness was flowing.
Aside from the obvious wine and beer, there were vendors from: Cozy Tea Cart (great tea), Tastefully Simple (with beer bread mix), Kettle to Keg (way better than Mr. Beer), The True Nut Company (awesome almonds) and other local vendors getting

Dry Creek Vineyard 2006 Dry Chenin Blanc
by Michele on April 9th, 2009 | California Wine, Wine
Recently, my husband and I enjoyed a simple, yet romantic, dinner of cheese and crackers, as we had found an excellent cheese counter at a new-to-us grocery store. Although we typically favor a red wine, it seemed that most varietals would overpower the delicate flavors of our goat cheese, mozzarella, and champignon. To compliment the cheeses, we decided that a Chenin Blanc would be best.
Although it took a little searching to find the right wine (4 stores!), my husband found Dry Creek Vineyard 2006 Dry Chenin Blanc. Having enjoyed this vineyard's wine several years ago, he was certain that

Who You Gonna Call?
by J Frazzetta on March 3rd, 2009 | California Wine, Wine
This week I’m going to talk a little bit about wine and Dan Aykroyd. Up until recently these two things probably had nothing in common, that is until Dan Aykroyd opened up his own vineyard and decided to give winemaking a try. Last Tuesday, the 24th, I had the opportunity to meet him and sample a bit of his new concoction.
Let me go on the record as saying this: I don’t know a lot about wine. I know there is white and red. I like some more than others, and some wines are sweet, others make your eyes pucker. Dan

Beer Review: Rogue, Chocolate Stout
by J Frazzetta on February 3rd, 2009 | Beer, WineBottle/Tap: Bottle
Somebody told me recently that if there are two things that don’t go together they are chocolate and beer. I turned and said in response, "If done right, it usually tastes great. . .if done right."
